Lemonade days
September 09, 2021
Goodbye to August lemonade days
spent in the halcyon sun
Savored in the tendering haze
breathed in by yearning, grateful lungs
White clouds, they soared and billowed
like the sails of old tall ships
Then your breeze rolled through the willows
cast from delicate, soft lips
You sang in a sweet whisper
lyrics summer emanating
But you were a dead ringer
convincingly pretending
Your eyes, they sparkle like the river
a melting look that lured
But you weren't the glow illuminating
just the glare that obscured
Too late and autumn seized the spoils
devouring the land
How sad, you only take, exploit
you do not give, only demand
In a blink your sworn sublime
turned to winter's dark embrace
I felt my heart break one more time
in exactly the same place
